In the application lines of PoE and PoE+, two kinds of transformers are generally used, one is a LAN transformer, and the other is a Power transformer, as shown in the following figure. So what roles do these two transformers play in the line respectively? This is the topic to be discussed in this paper. The role of transformer in the application of PoE and PoE+ 1. LAN transformer: As for the above circuit, we know that there must be a LAN transformer between the PHY chip and the Cable for electrical isolation. Then, in PoE and PoE+ circuits, because current needs to be injected, the LAN transformer is the most ideal device for current injection. At the same time, because there is current passing through the transformer, the problems of coil heating and magnetic core saturation must be considered in this LAN transformer. Its current capacity and the ability to withstand DC bias current should meet the standards of IEEE802.3af(PoE) and IEEE802.3at(PoE+). 2. Power transformer: As shown in the above line, the power transformer applied in DC-DC conversion module is actually a typical Flyback transformer, which achieves the functions of voltage conversion and energy distribution. The input voltage range of PoE transformer is generally 36~57Vdc, and the maximum output power is 12.95W, which conforms to the IEEE802.3af standard; The input voltage range of PoE+ transformer is widened to 36~72Vdc, and the maximum output power can reach 30W, which conforms to IEEE802.3at standard.
